hi everybody Welcome to week for it is today we're going to talk about the sovereignty of God in in uh political leadership and what that looks like um so often we can get caught up in the craziness of politics I know we're here in Ottawa I was in involved in politics for many many years before taking on this role and uh you know right now we're in uh all we're in a in an American election cycle and for the most part we're in a a Canadian election cycle because uh we could have an election at any time and uh with a minority government and with uh Mr Sing tearing up the agreement whatever that means um we could go into uh an election here in Canada or it could be perued or

who knows we could get a new liberal leader we don't know there's a lot of speculation at this time but um our I our job is to keep our eyes fixed on the Lord because the Lord knows what he's doing the Lord Reigns let the Earth rejoice and so our posture is rejoicing ever more in everything give thanks and pray without ceasing irrelevant of what's going on around us we are going to be in that place of watching what the father's doing and then doing what he's doing listening to what he's saying and saying what he's saying and then being courageous to walk in those things so so let's start off with uh habac chapter 1 that's where we're going to go with verse two and habac sounds an awful lot

like me at times um because we see things we see things politically we see things in our culture we see things in our society that are causing us to say Lord are you even paying attention and uh so let's let's start with this verse two habac 1 how long oh Lord must I call for help but you do not listen or cry out to you violence but you do not save why do you make me look at Injustice and why do you tolerate what's wrong destruction and violence are before me there is strife and conflict abounds therefore the law is paralyzed and Justice never prevails the wicked hem in the righteous so that Justice is perverted now doesn't that sound like today seriously that sounds like our H

House of Commons you know when we look at things like the medical assistance and dying how did that pass are you kidding that doesn't reflect what most Canadians think and the perversion of it potentially going to the next step thank the Lord for a heart change for the Liberals and for their leaders that they decided to slow down because they were going down this slippery slope that turned into a fullon lug where they were they were literally considering yes maid is good for those with mental illness and Maid is good for uh a mature Miners And thank the Lord that there was heart change and it and they slowed the process down they didn't stop it but they slowed it down and and you know

they're going to address it in 2026 so they wanted more time to look at it to see if it was righteous or not so I'm grateful for that but the fact that those thoughts are there is a perversion of justice and we see this and this is what habac is crying out God are you even paying attention Lord why is this violence happening what's going on and the Lord replies look look at the nation and watch and be utterly amazed for I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe even if I were to tell you this is what I love what I really love here is it says look look at the Nations and watch look at Canada and watch look at the United States and watch look at

what's going on around you and watch because you'll be utterly amazed we can take this to four different type of spheres I I I tell people that you know we're all in the ministry many people don't think they they think Pastor Bob you know their local church pastor is the guy that's in the ministry and we sort of show up on Sundays and you know we listen to him but he's in the ministry and he is but I want to tell something tell tell you something you are in the ministry we are all in the ministry Ephesians uh in Ephesians it talks about the five-fold ministry that is there to equip the Saints to do the work of the ministry are you a saint and are you doing the work of the

ministry and many of you are going to say well what is my Ministry well I I'd like to see that we uh most of us have four different Ministries where we are just um just everybody everybody has this and these are our spheres of influence these are spheres where we are intergrating and walking and the first sphere is our family that's our first sphere so the Lord is saying watch what I'm doing and be prepared to be amazed are you watching what God is doing in your family because if you're not watching you're missing what he's doing because if you are paying attention to what he's doing then you can come alongside and come into that place of agreement with him and say Yes Lord but most of us

aren't really paying attention at all the second sphere is our local church what's God doing in your local church are you paying attention to what he's doing beware the third sphere is our job or our school wherever we we're spending our days whether it's in work or at school the Apostle Paul calls it that's our advocation that our vocation is actually doing the work of the ministry our advocation is doing the other stuff the high priority in our lives are paying attention to what God is doing in those spheres around us being listening to him watching what he's doing coming into agreement and doing what he's doing and the fourth spere is our neighborhood what are you what is God

doing in your neighborhood are you even aware what is the Lord doing with your neighbor are you watching or do you just get out of the car and zip into the house and don't even say hello or anything like that um I know I I can I can I can be focused on stuff and not really paying attention to much I mean Marilyn and I have this ministry you call National House of Prayer that's part of the work that we do it's not all of the work that we do it's a this is a real fun part of the work that we do we love doing this but also we are watching what God's doing in our family we're watching what God is doing in this workplace we're watching what he's doing in our local church we love our local

church um it is a Praying church I just must tell you this we have 10 prayer meetings a a week in our prayer me in our in our little local church just a little work wonderful little place but it's a house of prayer and uh because your house needs to be a House of Prayer your local church needs to be a house of prayer because Jesus said my house would be a house of prayer for all nations and that's found actually not only in the gospels but it's also found in Isaiah 56 my house will be a house of prayer for all nations so when we look at made medical assistance in dying and we see that deplorable diabolical legislation we can say it's all perverted Justice is perverted God's not

working I don't know what happened here we need a new Messiah to lead us that's what we do we got we're going to root for this guy we going to root for the blue team we're going to root for the purple team we're going to root for an orange team or a red team or a green team I don't care what I don't know what teams you root for I have a I have a preference in a team uh but in in spite of the legislation what is God doing around you when it comes to maid medical assistance and D when that legislation was rolled out I really felt the Lord speak to us and say maybe we need to change the acronym maybe we should call it my assistance in living because part of being a part of

the sovereignty of God is coming into alignment with what he's doing and here we see habac all upset about the state of the nation the what's going on with society that Injustice is prevailing and the Injustice that shows up it's perverted sounds just like today and God is saying yeah but I want to do something so amazing that if I told you you'd never believe it so what is he saying what is he saying to you in my assistance in living you know there was a when when we were going through this process of this legislation going through a couple years ago um we started talking about my assistance in living and a friend of us of ours told us uh of a church in in a community and what they

had done is actually there was a person that was attending this local church who was a chaplain in the hospital what a great great front line job right chaplain in the hospital and he was had built a relationship with one of the patients and the patients the patient was offered medical assistance in D and this really bothered this chaplain and he was thinking God lord what am I going to do so he started to build this relationship with this man and he started to and he told his his local church about it and they used would come and visit this man and they would uh they would uh build they started building relationship with him and he had a very painful uh condition and he

was contemplating maid he was seriously thinking about it and the hospital was pressuring him the healthc care unit was pressuring him when are you going to do this when are you going to do this when are you going to do this but you know what happened he started to build these relationships and they would bring him out to the peoples there was a person who had horses and farms and they'd bring him out to see that and they'd bring them and all of a sudden this man had a reason to live and to the point where where the healthc care were were pressuring pressuring him for maid and that's the perversion they were pressuring him but instead he says no stop stop bothering

me I'm I'm not going to do this anymore in fact I have a bucket list and I have a reason to live and he's going he and he and he moved away from that diabolical idea that perverted Injustice or that perverted Justice that's my assistance in living so many times we can get all worked up about things and God but if we're paying attention toward the lord he may have a different solution he might want you to be engaged in it and I really believe that he wants you to be engaged in all kinds of things that he's doing he's doing all kinds of things and if you pay attention you'd be so amazed that you wouldn't even believe it I think that's true because I hear these stories over and over and over

again you know our ultimate Joy yes we have a diabolical horrendous laws that have gone through we have but it's our posture and how we carry it you know it's interesting that you you you you you see the Apostle Paul was fogged it was I don't know how many times they tried to take his life thrown in prison all the first century apostles were all in prison and but yet you don't hear them complaining and in fact you hear Paul and Silas they're in prison and they're singing and they keep getting rescued and uh uh you you you you you you hear all these things and one of my most favorite verses very obscure little verse out of Philipp Philippians 4:20 and the Apostle Paul is wrapping up

the letter and he he says this because you really don't hear Paul saying you have the right to do this although he went he did go to Rome because he was he was being mistreated as a citizen and he knew what his rights were so he went to Caesar to appeal but you never once heard him speak derogatory of Caesar or even complain about what was going on in the political system the political system was not very nice to Christians whatsoever they fed them to Lions they would throw them off of walls they did all kinds of things but you never saw this you never heard this and so out a Philippians 4:20 you hear Paul say as he's wrapping up the letter and by the way say hello to the house of

Caesar that is profound you know instead of whining and complaining about Injustice he has been preaching the gospel to the point that it's impacting Caesar's house some say it might be family some believe that they're probably just servants that are working in the house but nevertheless those servants are impacting the highest place in government and they're not whining and they're not complaining you know I I read somewhere that Tiberius was flabbergasted with Christians he didn't understand them because the Christians love the Romans more than the Romans love the Romans isn't that something the Christians love the Romans more than the Romans love the Romans RS

and tiberious this got his his attention when we look at Isaiah 10 let's look at that for example and this is uh this is uh talking about Cyrus and you know sometimes the Lord will raise up leaders that are completely catch us off guard raise up leaders that are not on our team raise up leaders that are not reflective of our own family values or our own moral values and he'd raise them up and he uses them for his glory so let's read this out of uh out of uh Isaiah 45 verse1 and this is what the Lord says to his anointed to Cyrus Oh what to his anointed to Cyrus I don't know could we say that about certain political leaders can we say that I know some of us are might saying well there's this

guy here yeah he's Osiris or that guy's airis but what if it's what if airis is somebody that's not really all that nice to the the needs of our uh to Christians but he uses them anyway because God is after something let's read this to Cyrus whose right hand I take hold of to sub subdue Nations before him and to strip Kings of their armor to open doors before him so that Gates will not be shut I will go before you and will level the mountains I will break down Gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron I will give you the treasures of darkness which stores in the secret place so that you may know that I am the Lord the god of Israel who calls you by my name

for the sake of Jacob my servant of Israel My Chosen I call you by name and bestow on you the title of Honor though you do not acknowledge me and I am the lord and there is no other I love what Brad said earlier in week one that Jesus is Lord and Caesar is not that's really amazing all right I am the lord and there is no other apart from me there is no God I will strengthen you though you have not acknowledged me so that that from the rising of the Sun to the place of its setting men may know there is none besides me I am the Lord there is no other I form the light and create Darkness I bring prosperity and create disaster I the Lord do all these things our posture is to be watching and

listening for what the Lord is doing insane and sometimes he raises up leaders that do not align with our values but he puts them there you scripture says he sets up Kings and he deposes Kings you know the heart of the king is is is in the hand of the Lord and he moves him as if he were a river so when we look at our leader um Justin Trudeau when I first arrived here in Ottawa like I said I came from a place of of on the political side of things I pasted for many years I had a heart for 24/7 prayer I I've been carrying that for uh over 30 years now and uh and calling cities to pray and then the Lord called us to this place of politics which I did not understand because I

wanted to be in his presence I wanted 247 prayer I wanted to call the body of Christ to prayer to adore one thing I asked and I would seek to G gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and gaze upon his Holiness I love that it was like it was my favorite part to be with the Lord to know him to watch him Night and Day prayer intercession worship it it's like that's what I was wired for that's what I'm built for and the the Lord spoke to me in 2013 and said okay I want you to go over here and I want you to put those things down which just about killed me and go into the political side of things ew who wants to do that that's kind of stinky right that's that's talk about Injustice

and unrighteousness and a political spirit and all these things I didn't want to do that I mean it's far better to be better is one day in your house than a thousand elsewhere why would I want to do that anyway I'm obedient and I did what the Lord asked me and so I started to move into things political and it took us a couple years to get there but eventually we became Eda I became an Eda president I was a vice president on other boards I sat about sat on about four boards all at once and eventually I became a staffer manager of a constituency office overseeing the staff in both in the the legislature and in the constituency I got to meet with um the Finance Minister the Ontario Finance

Minister on a regular basis and the the treasury board president uh the the cus whip the Assistant Attorney General I mean it was running with some pretty big dogs and uh and and it was amazing that was one of those things that the Lord said that hey if I told you where you were going youd never believe it that's one of those things CU if you keep your eyes on the Lord you'd be surprised where he's going to go because if he when he tells you up front you might not believe it because it's so outrageous anyway so I I started to move into this and and I was very content and I loved my job actually it was a lot of fun I got to have a phone call with the premier's office every week and that was

a lot of fun and uh and got to go to events and announcements and it was good you know I I I think politics is kind of fun it's it's a fun game um a little stinky sometimes but it's still fun and and I started to call out to Lord I said Lord you know remember remember you know you told me about this house of prayer stuff and this 247 stuff 247 prayer when is that going to happen I mean I'm if it never happens fine but if it does happen I really love that because you told me I was going to do that kind of stuff and I'm just I'm just saying what about that and then shortly after that it was it was a conversation I was having with the Lord in in August of of 2020 I remember it very very

clearly and then a couple months later I get a phone call and it was Chris would you like to lead National House of Prayer and it was all of a sudden oh that's why I'm doing this that's why I had to go into Politics the political things so I could learn the language so I could learn how to interact with politicians I became very versed in politics and politicians I could speak politician really well I still do to this stay and the Lord called me and as soon as I was asked I knew exactly where we were going but I needed to still change my posture because I had come from this place of hyper partisanship the Lord had to really work on my heart and I actually felt one day while

in prayer he was he had brought conviction on what I was posting in Facebook and there were some things that I was not showing any honor whatsoever and it was very partisan and sometimes was down like right mean even though there was some truth to it and there was a lot of Truth to what it was I was was posting but it would came out of a heart that was that was a political Spirit right and we talked about this earlier about the the leaven of Herod there were things there so the Lord said you need to repent for that and he actually I felt him say and if you expect to meet the Prime Minister he'll never invite you to his office cuz they're going to look at your

your um your Facebook sometimes you many of you would be wondering you know you've asked for meetings with your Member of Parliament and you never got one I would say check your Facebook because they who wants to to be going to a meeting with a hornet's nest right seriously who wants to do that when I worked in politics that was the first thing what we would do we would check uh we would check to see who these people were what their stances were were they relatively friendly or were they really angry right and unfortunately we're not we're not called to be angry we are we are not called to be angry actually I want to say this you know Jesus said love your

enemies pray for those that despitefully use you and many times we can think of Politics as friends and enemies Joshua you know in before going into the land encountered the angel of the Lord and the and the angel he asked the angel what side are you for us are you against us and he said neither and that's our posture when we're carrying politics it's neither although we have I have a I have a favorite team yes I do right but is the Lord is he resident in the conservative party he's there but he also wants to be in the liberal party and he also wants to be in the greens and he Al wants to be in the block he wants to be everywhere the kingdom of God is supposed to be everywhere we're

supposed to be Salt and Light to every part of the earth right and we are and and uh and it doesn't matter because we preach the gospel and go into all the world and preach the gospel to Every Nation to every tribe to every tongue so that's our job is to preach so so anyway so I I had this conviction that I was carrying uh the prime minister in the in the wrong way and so I deleted all my stuff that wasn't very nice it took quite a long time and uh and then the Lord spoke to me and said you need to be carrying him in this manner you need to carry him as if he were your son and that just I went oh man oh Lord and that's how we're supposed to carry our leaders pray for

everybody who is everybody pray for your enemies like he says love your enemies pray for those who despitefully use you it's actually a setup because when you start to pray for your enemies something happens you start to love them it's just not fair it's just it's a setup that's what it is Jesus says this and so when I find and sometimes it's really tough to pray pray for my enemies there are some that I don't like at all but where's to pray for everybody everybody those that we like and those we don't like we pray for everybody if they breathe we pray for them whether we like them or not so so here we see Cyrus we see God saying I'm going to take this guy and he's I'm holding his

hand and he's my anointed that does not make sense but God is after something he's after something because he wants to reveal himself to Cyrus and we also see that Cyrus is Nehemiah goes to Cyrus you know some almost 80 years after and says hey you realize Cyrus that you're in this book of Isaiah and uh and you actually send people home and he actually did it he used them yet he was tyrannical initially it's phenomenal it's phenomenal what God's uses so our job is to keep our eyes on the Lord to ask him every day father what are we doing today what are you doing today and how can I help you how do you want me to bring you along I like to say that I like to say

that we are in the family business and heavenly father he's the boss and we're going to do what he's doing today you know just a couple of days ago um my lawn warer and uh and I didn't want to buy a brand new one um because I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars and so I went to Kijiji my favorite I love Kijiji and I went to Kijiji and I found a really nice lawnmower for a reasonable price and I texted the fellow and he was ready to go and I picked it up within an hour and uh and as I pulled up to the driveway I knew the father was up to something I could just tell can you tell if you're paying attention he's going to do something and we I pull up he comes out

he starts the lawnmower works perfect it's way nicer than I thought it was it looked almost brand new this guy took care of every he was one of these guys that to takes care of everything changed the oil regular changed the plug changed the filters right the blades were always Shar sharp he washed his lawnmower after every cut I mean this this is a blessing for me it's like brand new and I only paid $80 that's even better anyway we started talking and chatting and I knew that that we were there I ended up there for about two hours with him and it turned out I don't know what it is but people tend to tell me all about their lives they do that's probably one of the giftings I have they tell me

everything and they told me about his marriage breakdown it's kind of funny on the first conversation and then I leared that his his 18-year-old son has been in a four-year battle with cancer a brain tumor that's why I was there to pray so I asked him if I could pray and I did I asked him you know if we could stay in contact he says yes I gave him my card and I'm there to care for him pastorally I explained to him that that uh uh Marilyn and I are a CH are chaplain this is how we can explain to them what we do uh we're chaplain on Parliament Hill because we are we're on Parliament Hill we we meet with many MPS and we're talking to them all the time even yesterday was at an event uh on

Parliament Hill uh to remember October 7th with the Jewish Comm community so we were there with about 3,000 people and uh and I was able to talk to MPS and explain to them I have a team of people praying for them in their writing and and I I spoke to uh the Israeli Ambassador Ambassador and Pastor moed idom moed again and uh talked to him and and prayed with him and told him I have a team praying for him and uh and always listening always listening always watching watching what the father is doing because that's our job right doesn't matter what's going on around us we watching what father is doing you mean look at Daniel in Daniel chapter 2 you know he gets you know the

L you know the story he's thrown into the lion's dead you know already he's a slave he's been taken away from Israel he's a slave very smart they utilize who he is but you know the story eventually he gets thrown into the lion's den and the King comes Darius comes at the end realizing you know this decree was was not a righteous decree and the King comes and out of Daniel's mouth is comes something really phenomenal that I find just amazing with the amount of honor and he says oh King live forever like I don't know about you but if I were thrown in the Lion's Den I don't know if I'd say oh King live forever if Trudeau threw me in prison for something would I be saying oh Justin

live forever I don't know if I would but there's a posture there we see in Daniel and because he had this this this honor that he carried this honor the Lord was able to even move him up and promote him and move them into those places and many of us I think we are missing a lot of our call of where we could be going because we choose to be offended and not carry honor and not walk in honor yeah I I know that you know the Apostle Paul when they threw him in jail and when it came time to me they were preaching the gospel Angel would break them out often and they go back to preaching the gospel but you never heard them saying curse you curse you and they didn't do that they they they knew what

their call was they did their call but there was still something in honor that they had and and uh and you know when when we when we took on this role in in 2021 and we were in the middle of Co a very contous time nobody was happy I wasn't happy wasn't able to see my family all that much we moved here we had no friends um it took it was a slow start to get friends because everybody was kind of confined and and uh you know we attended some Churches and things like that and uh but it was it was rough it was I you know and I worked on the political side of things so I heard the stories of long-term care and the mess that was there and uh and all the other things all the stuff that was connected

with that it was just a terrible time and um but I I I I had learned that I needed to carry honor and and we saw something the Lord started to really speak to us about something significant and it CES out comes out of James 3 James 3:9 with the tongue we praise our Lord and father and with it we curse men who have been made in the likeness of God out of the same mouth come praise and cursing Brothers this should not be can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring my brothers can a fig tree bear olives or a grape vine bear a fakes neither can a Salt Spring produce fresh water you know even in nature we see uh a fresh water source flowing into the

ocean it it actually when it flows into the ocean it becomes brackish there's a there's a mixture but the reality is the brackish water still you can't drink it if you drink the brackish water you're going to get sick it's not going to be good for your organs um and so it's there's this mixture and with the Apostle Paul's saying you can't have one or the other it's either a salt uh Source or a freshwater Source a blessing Source or a cursing source and so what we see is we needed to change our language why weren't the prayers getting answered what was it that was causing our prayers to hit the season ceiling you know in James it says you have not because you

ask not and when you ask you ask a miss and the Book of James actually will tell you all the misses all the ways to miss fire and so here it is important that blessing comes out of our mouth and not cursing Jesus said this and I shared this earlier love your neighbors love your enemies pray for those that persecute you or are right or wrongfully uh that hurt you you we supposed to be in that despitefully used you that's where the words I want to use pray for those that despitefully use you we are called to pray love your enemies so how do you love your enemies how do you not curse and and uh and not bless it's I tell you it's a setup there's a reason God Jesus tells

us love your enemies and says pray love your enemies pray and then it goes on bless not curse the pro the the wonderful thing because it's is difficult to love our enemies but when you pray for them something happens it's a setup it's a Divine setup that when you start to pray something happens to our hearts CS Lewis says I don't pray or to PR to pray to change God I pray to change me and so when we see this that our language needed to change we also started to see you know in in Ezekiel 47 that's the river of God and many of you know where this is so you see this river that starts at from the Throne of God comes down the stairs goes out the building goes down the

stairs and it creates this River and the river is at first ankle deep and then Knee Deep and then waist deep and up to our chest and then to the point where we can swim and the river does something really interesting it just doesn't flow to Nowhere it flows to the deadest of all dead things it flows to the Dead Sea but it doesn't become brackish right in nature when rivers flow into oceans they become brackish and you can see that if you're flying over when we fly into Vancouver for example you can see when you're flying into Vancouver International and you come out over you fly almost to Vancouver Island and you come back in and you can see actually where the water is mixed it looks

different you can see it in the ocean the brackish something happens that dead the deadest of dead water instantaneously comes to life and it becomes fresh instantly fresh but not only instantly fresh it becomes full of life and it becomes full of fish we so we see all kinds of fish and which is awesome because Jesus tells us we are Fishers of Men and then we also see these men on the banks men and women on the banks who are catching fish they're fishermen and also we see these trees whose roots go down deep and uh they bear fruit in season it reminds me of The Oaks of righteousness the planting of the Lord for the display of his Splendor in Isaiah 61 these roots these trees going out or

also the leaves of the trees the leaves of the trees for healing to the Nations so we see these things that are happening the river of God brings life wherever it goes and it's and we can have that so I I I was asking Lord because he was showing us in speaking to us in James 3 actually the whole book of James Ezekiel 47 how how does this work together and if you want to know if you're swimming in the river of God in that River the language changes because there's not salt water coming out but fresh water that is the evidence of the river changing our lives you see Romans 12 talks to us about about uh us being living sacrifices holy acceptable which is our

reasonable Act of service I I find it interesting that he says it's reasonable that dying to oneself to God is reasonable it's a reasonable Act of service or worship and that doesn't mean worship is something you do on Sunday mornings for you know 15 20 minutes a half an hour an hour depending on your congregation worship is what happens in our lives all the time because we are living sacrifices on the altar of God burning up the fragrance of God the smoke of God the anointing of God is permeating us all around us that's our reasonable Act Act of service so we are called to die many many years ago I was in h a service and there was a prophetic man came to our church and this is

1994 and the Lord had been speaking to me about certain things and and I'd been going through a pretty trying time both Marilyn and I I was about 33 34 years old and uh and I went to this church Church wasn't my local church I went there I felt the Lord was going to have a word for us and uh and sure enough there was a word there and and and John Paul Jackson got up and he preached and he preached from Romans Romans 12 and he said this you have no rights the only rights you have is the right to die and that impacted my life because I was in one of those places that I was really squirmy and really uncomfortable and didn't like where I was and I didn't like what was

going on around me and I knew that it was the Lord was calling me to die I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live and that's part of us being part of the sovereignty of God the the sovereignty of God requires us to die even though he's in control right back we look at habac we see all the stuff that's going on all around him the Injustice the the laws he's saying everything that we say and God says but if you pay attention to me I'm going to do something so amazing that if I told you you wouldn't even believe it and that's the life of being on the altar that's the life of being a Living Sacrifice because if you pay attention you give your life to him and you lay

your life down and you don't murmur and you don't complain which is really hard for me because in this video today it took us four tries to shoot this video especially this last session and I'll tell you I was really really complaining poor Marilyn I was not in a happy spot with this because it kept something Tech kept happening we are required to die we are required to lay our lives down because the bigger picture is God is in control he knows what he's doing and he wants us to partner with him and in that partnership it requires us to die it requires us to check our tongues to watch what we saying and to be those that we're called to be so again I'm going to say this
