Do What is Good
Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers.
They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarrelling. Instead, they should
be gentle and show true humility to everyone. Titus 3:1&2
As the above text states, we as Christians have the responsibility to live as model citizens. If we desire good government, Romans 12:3,4, then we should help or empower them to do as much good as they are able.
Jody Wilson-Raybould / Gerald Butts
During our 15 years in Ottawa, regardless of which government is in power, there has always been a scandal that hits the headlines. The 'talk of the town' is heard in all the coffee shops where conjectures and theories are like juicy morsels. I've always felt, that we as Christians need to be careful that we do not add 'fuel to the fire' of our media to invite even more criticism. Rather, we need to consider this question; are the exposing of these possible wrongdoings a result of our prayers, or, do they expose a lack of prayer for the government on our part? As far as I can see in the Word, we are called to be doing all we can to uphold our leaders in prayer, whatever party their political affiliation.
When we've done all that we can and hidden things become exposed, we can then properly thank God that He is working on our behalf to bring us a righteous government that is responsible to work truthfully. We can only say this when we have first followed the exhortation to faithfully pray for those who are in authority.
Here We Go:
Pray that there would be a willingness of our government for proper disclosure regarding the allegations of wrongdoing with the Quebec-based multinational engineering firm SNC-Lavalin.
Pray that the Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould and Gerald Butts would have courage and grace to not conceal a matter, but be willing to answer all questions truthfully and in the fear of the Lord.
Pray for wisdom for all Members of Parliament to work together responsibly to bring stability to our nation. Proverbs 28:2
Looking Towards our Federal Elections
Candidate nominations and selections are still underway in preparation for the October Federal elections.
Pray for there to be record breaking participation by voters in the By-elections in York-Simcoe, Burnaby South and Outremont, on February 25, 2019.
Pray for campaign managers to be successful in recruiting volunteers for the election campaign. Ask God to prompt people to contribute their time and talents to serve those who are seeking to represent their communities in parliament.
Pray for our pastors to preach and teach the biblical principles that demonstrate that it is our civic responsibility to choose our leaders.
Lord help us to understand that as citizens we must engage to effect change. What a privilege we have to partner with God on behalf of Canada; we choose, He appoints and we must honour those in authority over us. 1 Peter 2: 13-17
