Important Bills in the House of Commons
House of Commons is set to rise on June 23, 2023. With one week planned as a constituency week, that leaves only 9 expected sitting weeks until the summer break on Parliament Hill. When I say summer break, I don’t mean the Members are going to take the summer off. I am sure there will be some vacation plans with family but summertime is spent in their respective constituencies.

House of Commons passes C-11 and sends it back to the Senate.
Bill C-11 is the proposed “Online Streaming Act” in Canada. It has been sent back to the Senate for further review as of March 30, 2023.

Public Inquiry of Foreign Election Interference
On Thursday March 23, 2023, Members of Parliament voted in favour of a public inquiry into foreign election interference. The motion, brought by NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh, was supported 172 to 149.

Chinese Interference?
In the recent news, there have been leaks regarding the interference of the People’s Party of China on our federal elections. These disclosures were brought to us via Canada’s mainstream media from CSIS whistleblowers. Both CSIS and the RCMP are investigating these leaks for possible violations of the Security of Information Act. Canadians would like to see an investigation into the actual allegations of foreign interference.

CSIS Documents Reveal Chinese Strategy to Influence Canada's 2021 Election
It is now established that there was a co-ordinated effort by the Chinese government to influence the last federal election in September 2021. CSIS determined that China wanted to see Prime Minister Trudeau win a minority government. However, CSIS director said that there is no evidence that Chinese manipulation resulted in the election of any MP.
